Air France suspends Paris-Buenos Aires flights from 25 October to 11 November 2026 over Ezeiza runway works

Published · VolClaim

From Sunday 25 October until Wednesday 11 November 2026, Buenos Aires' Ezeiza international airport is operating with a single shortened runway. Air France and KLM are among the 14 airlines that have suspended all flights to and from the Argentine capital over this period, according to Infobae and Perfil.

Why the flights are suspended

According to Infobae, Ezeiza is using a single 1,850-metre runway for 18 days, compared with 3,300 metres normally. Airport operator Aeropuertos Argentina is rebuilding the secondary runway and its intersection with the main runway, as part of a 110 million dollar investment plan.

On such a short runway, wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and 787 or the Airbus A330 cannot take off with full fuel tanks, Infobae explains. They would have to leave lighter and stop to refuel. Several long-haul airlines therefore chose to suspend the route: besides Air France and KLM, Perfil lists Lufthansa, Swiss, British Airways, Turkish Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, United and Air Canada among others.

What options do Air France passengers have?

The suspension has been known since the spring. On 2 June, the Argentine travel blog Sir Chandler reported the reply from Air France and KLM: affected bookings are being changed, with rerouting via São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro on partner flights, departing from Ezeiza or from the city airport Aeroparque. Passengers who no longer wish to travel can ask for a refund of unused tickets. The sources we checked do not give the exact date of Air France's first flight after the works.

Some other airlines keep part of their European flights with a technical stop. According to Infobae, Iberia, Air Europa, Level and Plus Ultra serve Spain via Montevideo, and Aerolíneas Argentinas routes Madrid and Rome flights via Rio de Janeiro. Check your booking and your flight status before you travel.

Cancelled or changed flight: your rights

EU Regulation 261/2004 covers Air France flights from Paris as well as Air France flights from Buenos Aires. If your flight is cancelled, the airline must offer a refund or rerouting, and care if you are stuck at the airport.

Compensation of 250, 400 or 600 € is in principle not due if you were told about the cancellation more than 14 days before departure, which appears to apply to many passengers informed back in June. If you were told later, or if your replacement flight gets you to your destination significantly late, each case is assessed on its facts. Keep the airline's messages and your boarding passes.
