What has been announced
According to Orange Actualités and L'Express, the unions issued a joint call on 5 October for strikes and marches on Thursday 5 November, aimed at private-sector workers, public employees, retirees and young people. They oppose the draft 2027 budget and are demanding higher wages, a higher minimum wage and better pensions.
In the public sector, the CFDT civil service federation UFFA-CFDT filed a 24-hour strike notice for 5 November on 19 October, covering staff in central government, local authorities and hospitals, according to CFDT Interco. The website C'est la grève notes that walkouts may last one day or be extended, depending on the notices filed in each sector.
What it could mean for flights
At this stage, nothing points to mass cancellations. C'est la grève lists air transport and airport services among the sectors that could be disrupted, but says no programme of cancelled flights is known. Delays or cancellations remain possible if notices are filed at airlines, airports or in air traffic control.
If air traffic control is affected, the French civil aviation authority DGAC can ask airlines to cut their schedules, Algerie360 points out. The same outlet reports that public transport to Paris Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports could be disrupted on 5 November. Allow extra time to reach the airport and follow your airline's announcements in the days before.
Strikes and cancelled flights: your rights
If your flight is cancelled, the airline must offer a refund or another flight, and look after you while you wait: meals, refreshments and a hotel if you need to stay overnight. Keep your boarding passes and receipts.
Compensation of €250, €400 or €600 depends on the cause. A strike by air traffic controllers or airport staff is usually treated as an extraordinary circumstance. A strike by the airline's own staff generally does not exempt the airline, under EU case law. However, if you miss your flight because transport to the airport is disrupted, the airline is in principle not responsible.
