More than four months of works
Runway 4, also known as 06/24 and 3,650 metres long, has been closed since 10 August 2026 for a full rebuild: new pavement, upgraded runway lighting and a reconfigured taxiway layout. According to Air Journal, commercial reopening is planned for 17 December 2026 at the latest.
In an information letter to local residents, the management of Paris Orly airport (Groupe ADP) explains that all take-offs and landings have moved to runways 2 and 3. Each can handle up to 30 movements per hour, fewer than usual, and the night curfew from 23:30 to 06:00 remains in force throughout the works.
Around 3,000 flights affected
Before the works began, the French aviation industry federation FNAM estimated that around 3,000 flights could be cancelled, rescheduled or moved to Paris Charles de Gaulle over the whole period, many of them during the summer peak.
Transavia, a major carrier at Orly, announced frequency cuts, slot changes and the transfer of some operations to Charles de Gaulle, according to L'Écho touristique.
What it means for your trip
If you are flying from or to Orly before mid-December, including during the French autumn half-term, check the times and the airport shown on your booking regularly: a flight may have been rescheduled or moved to Paris Charles de Gaulle, which also affects any pre-booked parking or public transport journey.
Because the closure was planned months in advance, a cancellation or schedule change notified more than 14 days before departure gives a right to a refund or another flight, but not to fixed compensation. However, a cancellation announced less than 14 days before departure or an arrival delay of 3 hours or more may give a right to compensation, depending on the reason given by the airline.
If you are kept waiting at the airport, the airline must provide meals and refreshments, and a hotel if an overnight stay becomes necessary.
