Volotea cancels winter flights in France: Lille, Bordeaux, Nantes and Brest, what we know and your rights

Published · VolClaim

Spanish airline Volotea is sharply cutting its French schedule for winter 2026-27. According to Air Journal, about 700 flights to or from Lille are cancelled until spring 2027, and several regional bases, including Brest and Rodez, will run at minimum over the winter. Passengers who already hold tickets may be affected as the winter timetable begins.

What has been announced, airport by airport

At Lille-Lesquin, about 700 flights are cancelled between 1 October 2026 and spring 2027, according to La Voix du Nord figures reported by Air Journal and Ulysse, potentially affecting nearly 100,000 passengers on routes to Spain, Morocco, Greece, Turkey and Italy.

At Bordeaux-Mérignac, Volotea expects 35% fewer flights in the fourth quarter than in 2025, and seasonal routes to Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife South, Bari, Naples, Prague, Rome and Charleroi are temporarily dropped. At Brest, capacity falls by 30% according to Cirium data cited by Air Journal, and the base goes into winter hibernation. Rodez keeps only its regular Paris route. Lyon reportedly loses six winter routes, and some routes are withdrawn from sale at Marseille, Toulouse and Strasbourg. At Nantes, some cancellations hit travellers who had already booked, sometimes only days before departure.

Why Volotea is cutting flights

The airline cites geopolitical and operational instability and high jet fuel prices. According to Air Journal, Volotea may shrink its Airbus fleet from 44 to 30 or 35 aircraft. Volotea says these are its final adjustments for 2026 and that no further cancellations will follow this year. Some flights are kept during the All Saints' and Christmas holidays.

Volotea flight cancelled: your rights

According to Volotea, affected customers can change their ticket at no extra cost or ask for a full refund. Check your bookings and the date the airline informed you.

If you were told of the cancellation less than 14 days before departure, compensation of 250, 400 or 600 euros, depending on distance, may be due. Fuel prices or commercial decisions are in principle not extraordinary circumstances, but each case is assessed on its facts. If you were told more than 14 days ahead, compensation is in principle not due, but a refund or rerouting still is.
