Cancelled flight

Flight cancelled by the airline? Get up to €600

If your flight is cancelled, you are always entitled to a refund or re-routing (Article 8, Regulation (EC) No 261/2004). You are also entitled to financial compensation if you were notified of the cancellation less than 14 days before departure, without a satisfactory re-routing offer — unless a genuinely proven extraordinary circumstance applies. VolClaim checks your eligibility free of charge and handles your entire claim. You pay nothing upfront, and you only pay if we obtain your compensation.

In short: if your flight is cancelled, you are always entitled to a refund or re-routing. On top of that, each passenger is owed €250 to €600 in compensation if the airline told you less than 14 days before departure, unless it offered re-routing close to your original times or there were extraordinary circumstances. VolClaim handles the whole claim: 25 % commission incl. VAT, only if successful, nothing to pay otherwise. If court action becomes necessary, our total fee is capped at 50% incl. VAT. It covers all procedural costs (court fees, lawyer, judicial officer), which we advance and bear. If the proceedings fail, you pay nothing. Procedural costs awarded against the airline (legal costs, Article 700 of the French Code of Civil Procedure) are retained by us.

Cancellation: what you are entitled to in every case

Always

Refund or re-routing

Whatever the cause of the cancellation, the airline must offer you either a full refund of the ticket or re-routing to your final destination.

Notice < 14 days

Financial compensation possible

If you were notified of the cancellation less than 14 days before departure, without re-routing within certain time limits, compensation of €250 to €600 is owed — unless an extraordinary circumstance applies.

Notice ≥ 14 days

Generally no compensation

If you are informed 14 days or more in advance, no financial compensation is due in principle, only the refund/re-routing.

Care

Assistance while waiting for a new flight

If you are re-routed, the airline must provide meals, refreshments and, if necessary, accommodation and transport, depending on the waiting time.

Frequently asked questions about cancelled flights

Does a cancelled flight always give a right to compensation?

Not always. You are entitled to compensation if you were notified of the cancellation less than 14 days before departure, unless the airline offers you re-routing within specific time limits, or proves an extraordinary circumstance. If you are informed 14 days or more in advance, however, there is generally no right to compensation (but you always keep the right to a refund or re-routing, Article 8).

What is the difference between a refund and compensation in the event of a cancellation?

A refund or re-routing (Article 8) is owed in ALL cases of cancellation, whatever the cause. Financial compensation (Articles 5 and 7, €250 to €600) is only owed if the notice was insufficient (less than 14 days) and no extraordinary circumstance justifies the cancellation.

How much can I receive for a cancelled flight?

Between €250 and €600 depending on the flight distance, on the same scale as for a delay: €250 up to 1,500 km, €400 between 1,500 and 3,500 km, €600 beyond 3,500 km outside the EU.
